Privacy Policy

Your data is yours. This policy explains exactly what SecondDisk accesses, where it goes, and what we do — and don’t do — with it.

1. Overview

SecondDisk (“SecondDisk”, “we”, “us”) is an Android application that backs up your photos, contacts and files and saves them to storage you provide — your own email or a USB drive connected to your phone. We designed SecondDisk so that your personal data flows from your device to your own email or USB drive — not to us.

2. Data SecondDisk accesses on your device

To perform a backup, the app requests permission to read the content you ask it to protect:

  • Photos & videos — the media you select for backup.
  • Contacts — names, phone numbers and related contact details.
  • Files & documents — the folders or files you choose to include.

SecondDisk only accesses these categories when you enable them, and only to create and deliver your backup.

3. Where your backups are sent

Your backups are saved to storage you configure in the app:

  • An email address you provide, where SecondDisk delivers your selected photos, contacts, and files as attachments.
  • A USB drive connected to your phone, where the backup is copied directly on your device — an offline copy you keep.
  • An in-app backup record (Email Log) on your device that lets you view, download, or delete the backups you have sent.

Data sent to your email resides in that account and is governed by your email provider’s privacy policy. Backups copied to a USB drive stay on that drive and your device.

4. What we collect

We aim to collect as little as possible. Depending on configuration, this may include:

  • App settings stored on your device (such as which categories and the backup email you selected).
  • Basic diagnostic or crash data, if enabled, to help us fix bugs and improve reliability.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use the contents of your photos, contacts or files for advertising.

5. How we use information

  • To operate the backup and restore features you request.
  • To maintain, troubleshoot and improve the app.
  • To respond to your support requests.

6. Data retention

Backup content is delivered to your email and is not retained on our systems beyond what is technically necessary to complete delivery. Settings stored on your device remain until you change them or uninstall the app.

7. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect data while it is being processed for delivery. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to safeguard your information in transit.

8. Children’s privacy

SecondDisk is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at the address below.

10. Cookies on this website

This section covers seconddisk.app, our marketing website (separate from the Android app). We keep cookie use to a minimum:

  • Essential cookies / local storage — used only to remember choices such as dismissing the cookie notice and keeping the site working. These are stored on your device.
  • No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies are set by us, and we do not sell or share browsing data.

You can clear or block cookies at any time in your browser settings. If we add optional analytics in future, we will update this section and request your consent where required.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the revised version here and update the “Last updated” date above.
